In late 2003, English Partnerships launched the London-Wide Initiative (LWI), a pilot scheme aimed at fast-tracking more affordable homes in Greater London. Initially the pilot scheme will focus on a portfolio of sites that will be a test-bed for introducing a range of new ideas aimed at creating a step-change in the delivery of homes.

The pilot scheme will deliver up to 4,500 homes over the next three years of which 1,500 – 2,000 will be for sale at discounted prices.

The delivery of the programme is in the hands of three consortiums – First Base, Key London Alliance and a consortium led by Countryside Properties PLC.

The first site – Adelaide Wharf, Hackney - is now completed with a further scheme due to commence at the Elephant & Castle, South London, in Autumn 2008.
